The clock that is never right, 2017
Manipulated functioning wall clock, metallic sheet
Installation view: Stichting Kaus Australis, Rotterdam
Photo: Willem Mes
The work consists of a functioning clock that the artist found and manipulated. It has the numerical indications all printed in a flipped manner, making the numbers only readable through the reflective metallic sheet attached adjacent to the clock. e clock functions perfectly, though misleading the audience the actual time at the moment, since both readings from the clock or its reflection at the mirror-surface don’t indicate the “real time”.
Time is just an abstract concept and should be free from numerical expression; this work investigates how the function of a common object and its associated text can have a contentious relationship.
